Whisky #12

Glenfarclas

Scotland (Speyside) ~ 43% ~ $450 ~

Glenfarclas is truly a family affair. One of the last properly independent distilleries left in Scotland, it is still run today by decedents of John Grant who purchased the facility in 1865. A defining flavour of Speyside, Glenfarclas is renowned for their mastery of sherry-only maturation. Being family-run reduces the pressure to develop new products and zany marketing gimmicks so they keep it old school – all their expressions start with numbers, mostly years. We are thrilled to bring you the sublime 25-year-old which we couldn’t properly describe even if we wanted to. Perhaps you can ask 12 Drammer Rory, who, legend has it, once drank half a bottle at a whiky tasting, one quarter-ounce at a time. Or JM who spent a fateful night in The Mash Tun drinking with the entire Glenfarclas staff, from mashmen to tour guides to the distillery manager himself. This distillery is special because every one of the 37 people who work there care. So from the Grant family to our 12 Drams family, sláinte.

Tasting Notes
By The Master of Malt

Nose

A touch of menthol. Classic Sherry notes, less pronounced than the 15 year old perhaps, but the complexity is greater.

Palate

Incredibly clean central palate, but amazingly tangy. Really zingy top notes. Sherry and creamy barley, hints of gingerbread and nutty chocolate.

Finish

Very, very long and complex finish, oak-rich, hints of smoke, cocoa, buttery...
