A relatively new highland mainstay that grew out of a cotton mill, Deanston has been winning awards with the Virgin Oak expression for years. The young whisky is finished in, you guessed it, virgin oak which gives it that je ne sais quoi missing from many no age statement (NAS) releases. Perhaps the sustainability of Deaston’s hydroelectric power and the eco-friendly, organic barley add layers as well. Regardless, at this price it’s a proper bargain.

Fresh citrus, honeyed barley and a subtle hint of smoke.

Toffee sweets pop up first, followed by a dollop of cream and oak notes.
Finish
Oak spices on the finish.
