Tallant

Canada? Scotland (Islay)? ~ 58.8% ~ $250 ~

Vancouver-based distillers Tallant have yet to actually distill anything. They hope to one day though, and part of that plan is bottling single cask expressions from Bruchladdich. If that sounds insane, you don’t know the half of it. The story of acquiring, shipping, importing, and bottling the five barrels of heavenly nectar they managed to procure through family friend, and whisky royalty, Jim McEwen, is truly insane. In the end, the 12 Drams benefit massively with a series of independent single cask bottlings available exclusively in BC. After much consideration, we’ve selected cask 581 for its uncanny resemblance to used motor oil, earned from a stated 14 (but really 16) years in a first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry hogshead. Described by founder, and Islay native, Simon Farrington as a “big Spaniard on steroids” and “whisky concentrate”, this deep, dark dram is brooding while also welcoming. Enjoy and see you next year!

Tasting Notes

"The Imposter" Dark, dried christmas cake emerges from linseedy varnish, finely balanced with tobacco and suede. Earthy cacao and baking spices lead to a smooth, dry finish.
