Scotland (Speyside) ~ 55% ~ $190
The Singleton brand dates back to 2006 and actually spans three different workhorse distilleries: Glen Ord, Dufftown, and Glendullan. The whisky from each distillery was available only in specific geographies until recently, when Diageo opened the flood gates in a bid to have The Singleton compete with Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet for universal dominance in the “recruitment malt” market. We were thrilled to see a Glendullan expression in this year’s Special Release for the opportunity evaluate this famously light and airy spirit at a higher ABV. The French oak chardonnay finish should compliment those classic Speyside characteristic perfectly.

From the Diageo Special Release range of 2023 comes this 14-year-old expression from the Singleton of Glendullan. ‘The Silken Gown’ is a single malt finished in rich Chardonnay de Bourgogne French Oak casks and bottled at 55% ABV. Diageo malts ambassador Charlotte Barker says the flavour of this brings to mind a cartoon character floating to the enticing aroma of a freshly baked apple pie on a window sill.
