This Speyside distillery has recently overhauled their core range under the authority of new master blender Dr. Rachel Barrie and we’ve selected this soft and sweet smoky expression as an introduction. The bourbon, sherry, and Marsala cask finishes all bring something unique to relish (Seared orange! Smoky honey!) as we begin our 2021 journey together.
Tasting Notes
By The Master of Malt
Brilliantly peaty 12 year old whisky here from the Benriach Distillery, released as part of its new core range launched in 2020. To create this expression, Dr. Rachel Barrie used a combo of bourbon, sherry and Marsala wine casks, imparting sun-dried fruit and warming festive spice notes to the smoky single malt. Nose
Flamed orange peel, chocolate brownies fresh from the oven, raisins and walnuts.
Palate
Well-rounded sweetness from the Marsala casks wonderfully juxtaposed with woody smoke and a hint of clove.
Finish
Almond, orange once again, peppercorn and hickory.
