India ~ 55.5% ~ $126 ~
Indian whisky has been around for a long time and is more than just a European impersonation. Take this cask-strength, peated expression from John Paul, a distillery in Goa on the West Coast of India. Though the physical peat comes from the Highland region of Scotland, the resulting whisky is distinctively Indian with a fruity sweetness and a malty backbone juxtaposing the heaviness of oily smoke. Whisky so sumptuous could only be distilled under the tropical sun, a stone’s throw from gorgeous white sand beaches.

Peated whisky from the Paul John range of single malts produced in Goa. This particular expression was matured in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at cask strength (a pleasing 55.5% ABV) without chill filtration. A prime example of the gorgeous whisky distilleries in India are producing.
Nose
Walnut, barley sugar sweets and classic earthy peat notes. A touch of salt.
Palate
More BBQ smoke, more sugar, more slightly damp earthy notes. Hints of tropical fruit and spice.
Finish
Bitter orange peels on the finish.
