GlenDronach is a fascinating distillery that we don’t hear much about in BC. Perhaps because it was mothballed from 1996-2002 and has had four owners since then. Due to this tumultuous run, the legendary 15-year expression was lost to the cruel supply gods in 2015. Your dram in hand is indeed a revival of that nectar, aged in Spanish sherry butts and adored by many. With new American owners, and Dr. Rachel Barrie at the helm, we hope to see more GlenDronach on the shelves soon.
Tasting Notes
By The Master of Malt
The Revival has been revived! The GlenDronach's 15 Year Old Revival was a much-loved expression, though was sadly discontinued in 2015 by the distillery, citing lack of maturing stocks. However, stocks have been replenished and The GlenDronach 15 Year Old Revival has returned to our shelves! Matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, this stuff is hugely flavoursome, aromatic and complex.
Nose
Coffee beans, sponge cake drenched in sherry, mint leaf, slightly buttery, sultana.
Palate
Oily walnut, new leather, blackberry and apple crumble, toasted brown sugar and a touch of liquorice root.
Finish
Fresh ginger, waxy orange, caramelised dried fruit and a hint of cigar box.
